An Alabama drivers license may be
renewed at the Enterprise or Elba Courthouse. You may also
renew your driver license at any county license office or
Probate Office in the State of Alabama. If you lose your
Alabama Drivers license a duplicate may be issued with proper
identification. At least two forms of identification will be
needed to issue a duplicate drivers license. Contact our office
for a list of authorized forms of proper identification.
For
out-of-state new residents and first time issuance of an Alabama
driver license or first time issuance of an Alabama non-driver
(I. D.) card
You must apply
at the Alabama Department of Public Safety Office at
Coffee County Agricultural Complex

The Driver
License Examiner will be at their office in New Brockton at the
above address on Tuesday and Friday (only) $5 (cash)
administrative fee for each application
To complete
the application process, applicants will bring an issuance card
to the Probate office fee is $23
Alabama Learner
License
APPLICATION DOCUMENTS REQUIRED
One
of the following:
1. Certified birth certificate or,
2. Current US passport or,
3. Alabama identification card
AND:
1-
Social Security card or,
2-
Social Security printout from the Social Security office or,
3-
Current military ID card or,
4-
Previous Alabama driver license or,
5-
Current W-2 tax form (can be last year’s)
AND:
A third form of non-photo identification. Acceptable documents
are:
1-
Marriage license
2-
Divorce Decree
3-
Selective Service card
4-
Medical insurance card
5-
Student Enrollment form (DL 193) provided by our office
6-
Student ID card
7-
Professional license
8-
Felon ID card
9-
State or Federal probation paperwork or prison release paperwork

Alabama law requires that applicants ages 15, 16, 17, and 18
must be enrolled in school, have completed school, or meet
certain exclusions (listed on the DL 193 form) in order to
obtain a driver license.
Cost of testing is $5.00.
The cost of the learner permit is $23.00.
Acceptable forms of payment are cash or credit card
(Visa/MasterCard).
We do not accept H&R Block cards or Debit cards that require a
pin number.
NON-COMMERCIAL
DRIVER LICENSE TRANSFER
APPLICATION DOCUMENTS REQUIRED
One of the following:

Certified Birth Certificate

Current US Passport

Previous Alabama ID Card
AND:

Social Security Card

Printout from the Social Security office

W-2 tax forms (current or last year)

Your out-of-state license (not expired more than 1 year).
If you do not have your out-of-state license in your
possession, you will be required to provide a third form of ID.
If you out-of-state license has been expired more than
one year, you will be required to take both the written and
skills tests.
The base cost of transferring a non-commercial driver license is
a $5.00 application fee plus $23.00 for the issuance.
Transferring a motorcycle license or a vessel license
will result in an additional $5.00 per classification charge.
Acceptable forms of payment are cash or credit card
(Visa/MasterCard).
We do not accept H&R Block cards or Debit cards that require a
pin number.
COMMERCIAL
DRIVER LICENSE TRANSFER
APPLICATION DOCUMENTS REQUIRED

Cost of transferring is a Class A CDL is $78.00, a class B is
$53.00, and a Class C is $43.00.
Hazmat applicants are required to complete a TSA background
check and pass a written test.
Adding motorcycle or vessel classifications may result in
additional testing at a cost of $5.00 per test.
Acceptable forms of payment are cash or credit card
(Visa/MasterCard).
We do not accept H&R Block cards or Debit cards that require a
pin number.
ROAD TEST
PRACTICAL SKILL
APPLICATION DOCUMENTS REQUIRED
You must be:
16 years of (or
older)
NOTE: applicants ages 16 and 17 must have held their permit for
a minimum of 6 months in order to be eligible for the road test.
AND
be able to present:
1-
Current proof of insurance on the vehicle in which you will be
taking the road test.
2-
Current proof of registration on the vehicle in which you will
be taking the test.
3-
The valid license issued belonging to your accompanying driver.
If your learner license is expired, the cost of your duplicate
will be $23.00.
Your vehicle must be able to pass a safety inspection.
Examples of disqualifying items are:
1-
Inoperative horn
2-
Excessive cracks in windshields that can be considered to block
the driver’s view
3-
Inoperative emergency brake
4-
Inoperative turn signals or brake lights
5-
Illegal tint
6-
Improper tires
7-
Lack of safety belts
8-
Excessive smoke or exhaust
9-
Inoperative door handles
10-
Excessive debris or trash
The determination of inoperative or excessive will be made by
the Examiner.

Vessel Licenses
Persons 12
years and older operating watercraft must have an operators
license. Persons born prior to 4/28/1954 are exempt from
