DD214

Pursuant to §31-1-1, Code of Alabama,  Any person who holds an honorable discharge from the United States Army, Navy or Marine Corps may present the same to the probate judge of the county  for the same to be recorded.  There shall be no fee charged for this service. 

 

DD214s shall be confidential and shall be open only to:

            -the person who is the subject of the record

            -their immediate family (spouse or next of kin)

            -person named in appropriate power of attorney executed by the person who   

            is the subject of the record

            -the administrator, executor, guardian, or legal representative of the person       

            who is the subject of the record;

            -an attorney for any person specified in the above

            -open to other persons only upon order of the probate court for good cause     

            shown.

 

Pursuant to §26-9-12, Code of Alabama, When an honorable discharge is recorded a certified copy of the discharge or a public record used to determine eligibility for benefits to applicant for benefits shall be without charge.
