Marriage License

This information is provided for persons interested in purchasing marriage licenses in Coffee County.

General Information

-Both parties must be present to apply for a license (pre-martial blood test is no longer required)

-Fee for a marriage license is $46 (cash only)

-A license is valid for 30 days from the date of issuance.  There is no waiting period for marriage            after the license is obtained.  This license is only good for marriages performed in the State            of Alabama.

-If you wish to be married at the County Courthouse, our marriage official is available by           appointment only.  Fee for a marriage license and ceremony is $61  (cash only)

Guidelines for marriage licenses for persons 18 years or older:

Residents of Alabama

1.  Official Picture ID (passport, military ID, State issued ID, Driver License)

            or

2.  Certified copy of the state issued birth certificate and 2nd ID such as social security card

Non-Residents

NO EXCEPTIONS

1.  Official picture identification (passport, military ID, State issued ID, Driver License)

2.  US Government issued Immigration Services ID Card (green card, visa, alien resident card,

     etc.)  Birth record is not acceptable

Guideline for Issuance of Marriage License for Minors between 14-17 years of age with parental consent

1.  Both parents must be present or the custodial parent must provide a certified copy of divorce                             or certified copy of court order that grants care, custody, and control.

2.  A certified copy of the state issued birth certificate for the minor.

3.  Official picture identification for minor and both parents.

Requesting certified copies of marriage license

If you need a certified copy of a marriage license that was issued in Coffee County, we will need the following:

            Name of the bride and groom

            Date of the marriage (month, day, year)

            Whether the license was applied for in Elba or Enterprise

            Fee of $3 for each copy requested.

If you need a certified copy of a marriage license that was issued from another county in Alabama you may contact your local health department, or the county Probate Office in which the license was issued.
